About This Work
Made right at the end of 2020, this work came from the smug satisfaction of making it through what we assumed would be the most difficult year of the pandemic. Thanks to the wisdom of hindsight, that confidence proved to be comically misplaced. I experienced strong feelings of nostalgia during the pandemic, and the pixelated lettering in this painting is a nod to old-school video games. This is also a reference to a time when much of daily life was experienced via screens, and the off registration of the letters emphasises that feeling of brain-fry.
