About This Work
Painted during one of Melbourne's lockdowns while watching The Queen's Gambit, this work comes from a time when many of us found comfort in routines, games and familiar patterns. Inspired by the simple checkers of a chess board, I played with colour to form a different pattern and rhythm. I wasn’t trying to depict the game itself, but as chess is governed by a set of rules, I wanted to apply my own set of rules to this painting.
