About This Work

This was created during one of Melbourne’s long lockdowns in 2020, when time and routine began to feel repetitive and slightly disorientating. The sense of being caught in a continuous loop and unable to move forward became palpable. The clashing colours in this painting emphasise that feeling of emotional turmoil and of being stuck on spin cycle.

I named this artwork Sixteen Doughnuts, as not only are there 16 circles here, but coincidentally, the day I finished it happened to be the 16th consecutive day that Melbourne achieved zero new Covid cases. It felt like a good day.
