About This Work

The title of this collection comes from Aristotle's idea that "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts." I'm interested in how experiences such as awe or overwhelm can be broken down into smaller, more manageable pieces, without losing their emotional significance.

Throughout the series, I use the square as a repeated building block. By layering, spacing and variation, this basic shape is pushed into different configurations that illustrate how complexity can emerge from simplicity. Some compositions are clean and ordered, while others are dense and visually loaded. Some use bright, clashing palettes, while others reference colours from the natural world.

Although the works can feel intense at first, each one is constructed from a single repeated shape. They're a reminder that even the most overwhelming experiences are often built from smaller moments, and that breaking them down can be the first step towards understanding them better.
