About This Work

My Mum often says that “time is elastic”, and this little series explores that concept. These works came about during lockdown, when time would sometimes pucker in to pass at an agonisingly slow pace, only to then puff out like a helium balloon, floating away before we could catch the string.

These three small paintings illustrate that warped sense of duration. Each one was made slowly and carefully with patience and focus. And ironically, while they took an intensive amount of time to complete, the process itself made the days feel lighter and faster.

The title Time Is Hardcore is borrowed from a song by electronic musician High Contrast, and implies that time is not a just a fixed measurement, but is something more subjective. It can be exact, it can be relative, and it can constantly reshape itself depending on context, perception and state of mind.
