About This Work

My Mum often says that “time is elastic”, and this little series explores that concept. These paintings came about during lockdown, when time would sometimes pucker in to pass at an agonisingly slow pace, only to then puff out like a helium balloon, floating away before we could catch the string.

These three small paintings illustrate that warped sense of duration. Ironically, while they took an intensive amount of time to complete, the process itself made the days feel brighter and faster.

The title Time Is Hardcore is borrowed from a song by electronic musician High Contrast (which I played on repeat at the time!), and implies that time is not a just a fixed measurement, but is something more subjective. It can be exact, it can be relative, and it can reshape itself depending on a persons individual context, perception and state of mind.
