My Mum often says that “time is elastic”, and this little series explores that concept. These works were created during lockdown, when time seemed to pucker in to pass at an agonisingly slow pace, only to then expand again and run away from us before we could grasp what was happening.

These three small paintings respond to that warped sense of time. Each one was made slowly and carefully, through repetition and patience. Ironically, while they took an intensive amount of time to complete, the process itself made the days feel lighter and faster.

The title, which borrows from a song by electronic musician High Contrast, reflects on time as something more subjective than just a measurement, it can be exact, relative, and constantly reshaping itself depending on the context and our state of mind.
